Working Party Programme

The Forestry Group suggest that we organise monthly working parties from TWS membership to complete some of the following jobs:

    1. Footpath diversion. Parts of the footpath on the East side of the river are being undercut and are potentially dangerous. These sections urgently need roping off and re-routed.
    2. Remove hung-up trees and branches overhanging or near the footpaths. It should not be necessary to remove all hung-up trees and branches, as these are a desirable natural feature of a woodland, only those considered to be a threat to public safety.
    3. Create 'scalloped edges' along the high track on the S.W. side to encourage butterflies. These will require annual strimming to control bramble and bracken and encourage grassy verges and surviving areas of heather.
    4. Cut Spruce blocking view from viewpoint above car park (below picnic table). Also clear encroaching vegetation from this area. This is our only reasonable area accessible to disabled people. We also need to blade off the bye-way for a few metres to improve vehicle access.
    5. Litter collection as and when necessary.
    6. Thin surplus birch and willow saplings growing among P96 Douglas Fir in Cpt 1c and P96 Broadleaves in Cpt 1d. Hand saws adequate?
    7. Cut more inspection racks through P96 Sitka Spruce in Cpt 1b. Chainsaw operators required. Forestry Group only.
    8. Tree marking. 3 colours of spraypaint required to indicate Fell/Dont Fell/Extraction routes. Red/White tape around 'hotspots' where no felling to take place. Forestry Group only.

Hand tools are available on loan, courtesy of Llanelli Ramblers.
